Junior Triathlon Series

As most sports people would ackowledge, a triathlon is one of the most demanding sports to compete in. It contains not only one or two, but three discplines that must be excelled at. For one young gentleman, Adam Dunne has the athletic ability to suceed in these three areas, and in particular the swim element, which is generally most poeple's achilles heel. To dominate in this area alone, will give Adam a huge head start (literally and metaphorically!) in his races to come.

In Adam's age group, the disciplines and distances are; Swim 500 meteres, Bike 15k and then as if that's not enough a 3-4k Run to the finish!

Last year Adam accumilated the most points from four races in the 'Kids Triathlon Series', placing himself 1st in his age group competing in Athlone IT, University Limerick, Universtity Cork and Loughrea, Galway. In that year, he also came 6th overall in the National Junior Triathlon Series.

In the same series this year, after three races, Adam is again in pole position to take first place overall, after his fourth and final race in Lough Cultra, Galway.

Adam has had a busy year already, particpating in aquathons (swim and run only) and duathlons (bike and run only) placing first in many. This busy man attends Triathlon Ireland Training camps with others from around the country, where they are coached by the best in the country.

Only last Sunday the 27th April, Adam attended a training camp in the Curragh's Army Barracks where the top Irish coaches pick the best junior competitors to join them in the National Junior Academy. Each competitor is assigned a persoanl coach and would compete around the world. No doubt Adam is top of the pickings for this seriously amazing opportunity, and we wish him all the best in his triathlon career. It's a pity our own school 'pool' isn't still available for Adam to give us some swimming lessons!
